The Viking-Ash Holmegaard bow (mollagabet)

The Viking-Ash Holmegaard bow (mollagabet)

They are named after the holmegaard area of Denmark in which the first and oldest specimens were found, and are the oldest bows discovered anywhere in the world, thought to be from around 8000 years ago. They are often referred to as mollagabet, which was a Mesolithic settlement in southern Denmark where this bow design was also found.
The design itself is quite incredible and really makes you understand that 8000 years ago you could argue that bowyers had come up with the zenith of bow technology.
